Hindu Blessing
In the beginning of January 2006, Britney Spears took her 4-month-old son Sean Preston to a Hindu temple in Malibu to have him blessed. Britney, who was born a Baptist and has also tried out the popular celebrity religion Kabbalah, visited the temple in an effort to become a better mother to little Sean Preston. Kevin Federline was not in attendance.
She and her baby joined the ceremony in prayer inside of "Ganesh Temple." The Malibu minister, Samundrala Krishna Ma Charyulu, wrapped some Hindu cloth around them both and gave them some flowers to wear as part of the ceremony. Britney took part in the "Chendur Kumkuman" practice, and asked the minister to bless her and her baby.
Britney was even adorned with a divine eye, the spot Hindi women wear on their foreheads to show that the person has been to worship services, as she left the service.
Every Mother Makes Mistakes!
In the beginning of February 2006, Britney Spears was driving a car with her baby son sitting on her lap. Several pictures of the incident had circulated unofficially on the internet prompting a defense from the pop star. The pictures raised obvious questions because her young son was not in a car seat.
Someone close to Spears told that the singer drove to Starbucks with her bodyguard in the passenger seat and son Sean in his car seat in the back. When the bodyguard went into the store to get the drinks, Spears took Sean out of his car seat and held him in her lap while she waited. Photographers approached the car and became aggressive. Once her bodyguard climbed back into the car, Spears drove away while still holding her son.
The same day Spears explained her actions in an exclusive statement: "Today I had a horrifying, frightful encounter with the paparazzi while I was with my baby. Because of a recent incident when I was trapped in my car without my baby by a throng of paparazzi, I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger. I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm's way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us, and took photos of us which were sold to the media. I love my child and would do anything to protect him."
The agency that snapped the photos, X17, said the pictures were taken in a very peaceful context, in which photographers exhibited no aggressive behavior. "We believe that the pictures speak for themselves," the agency said in a statement.
The photos have captured the attention of the county Department of Children and Family Services. Authorities were investigating this incident, but didn't intend to pursue charges against the pop star. Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Diane Hecht said that deputies went to Spears' home to collect information for the county Department of Family and Children Services. "Unless a deputy saw the violation, there's nothing we can do," he said. "We don't even know if this took place in our jurisdiction."
Later Britney characterized her actions as a runaway from paparazzi in a style of Princess Diana. Anyway, other celebrities made much worse mistakes.
The Injury
A nanny was removing 7-month-old Sean Preston from his high chair on April 1, 2006, when something in the chair snapped as she was holding him. Britney and Kevin were in another room. The baby slipped from they nanny's arms and fell to the floor, bruising his head.
Immediately, a scared Britney took the baby to the doctor, who examined the child and said he seemed fine.
Six days later, on April 7, however, the baby's parents noticed the change in his sleeping pattern, and rushed him to Santa Monica "UCLA Medical Center", where the child had been born. The doctor noticed swelling in Sean's head and ordered a CAT scan - and the results were not normal. The test revealed the minor skull fracture and a blood clot. The diagnosis surely sounded scary to Kevin and Britney. A blood clot, or haematoma, which can happen with or without a skull fracture, can occur inside or outside the brain. A haematoma inside can cause part of the brain to collapse and often requires surgery. Sean's haematoma was outside his brain, and it was treated simply by watching the child and making sure he is well.
Britney and Kevin escaped disaster, but not their obligation to explain themselves to the authorities. On April 8, Los Angeles sheriff's deputies arrived at Britney's Malibu mansion to investigate a child-abuse claim against Britney and Kevin in relation to the head injury. Such investigation wasn't unusual. According to California law, whenever a baby is brought into the hospital with a serious injury, the Department of Children and Family Services is alerted. The department makes a house call to determine whether or not an injury jibes with the story that a parent or caretaker has given.
Department of Children and Family Services determined there were no problems and no reason to open a formal investigation, and that the parents were not involved in any injury and that nothing improper was done within the home. Sean Preston was back home and doing fine.
However, the baby's nanny was fired, and the singer was going to sue the High-Chair maker, because the chair's back broke.
No Drama!
Shortly after Sean's injury, a new baby drama had captured the headlines. Britney Spears was spotted zipping around in her convertible Mini Cooper with 8-month-old Sean Preston slumped over in a forward-facing car seat. Federal regulations mandate that all car seats should face backward until a child is a year old. "The seat is facing the wrong way. We like it when the child's head is facing back," said California Highway Patrol spokesman. Since officers hadn't actually witnessed Spears driving with Sean facing the wrong way, they couldn't consider citing her.
California law mandates that parents install child-safety seats in their cars in accordance to national standards. However California Highway Patrol spokesman said the federal guidelines only "strongly suggest" that children ride-along in backward-facing seats if they're younger than one year or weigh less than 20 pounds. "If this were a traffic stop, it would be up to an officer's discretion whether to give out a citation or a verbal lecture. In other words, if they stop you and realize you were unaware and are able to correct the situation, then they might let you off with a verbal warning and not a citation," he said.
However, the singer's publicist said that Spears was in total compliance with California state law, "Having a child in the child safety seat facing forward in the rear seat of the car is in compliance with California law. California law requires, pursuant to Vehicle Code 27360, that all children under the age of six or weighing less than 60 lbs. be in safety seats in the back seat of the car. There is no law in California requiring rear-facing car seats. In fact, there are only ten states that require a child to be in a rear-facing car seat, and in two of those states it is not required if the infant is more than 20 lbs. Britney's son Sean weighs over 20 lbs. As such, Britney Spears was in total compliance with California law with the forward-facing child safety car seat with the baby strapped in properly in the back of the car."
New York Troubles
Britney Spears was condemned for putting her baby son in danger when she drove with him in her lap. On May 18, 2006 her childcare methods
were being questioned once again after she nearly dropped her eight-month-old son on his head. At about 6p.m. the pop star left the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Central Park South, holding her kid, Sean Preston, in one arm, and clutching a drink in the other hand. As she was swarmed by onlookers and paparazzi, Britney tripped on the heel of her sandal, losing her balance and causing Sean's head to fall back, making him lose his hat. Sean's head whipped back in a "violent manner," his chubby arms desperately reached for his mother and his tiny hat was flung to the ground. Fortunately, Britney's quick-thinking bodyguard was on hand, and he caught the baby before his head hit the floor. Once she recovered and as she entered an awaiting vehicle Britney remarked, "This is why I need a gun." Afterwards she went to "FAO Schwarz Cafe" to calm down, visibly shaken by the incident. The pressure hit such a fever pitch, that Britney has left New York.
A month later Britney mentioned this incident in an interview with NBC's Matt Lauer, defending her parenting skills. "Actually, I didn’t trip on anything. It was a New York street, and just cobblestones. And I was walking and I don't think we were prepared with one security, 'cause I've never had that much paparazzi ever on me in New York. So we didn't even know there was gonna be that many people. So I think it was a mixture of so many paparazzi and how the road was all messed up, me just trying to get in the car. Then we stopped to get something to eat, and it was again, a bad situation. And instead of people inside of the place trying to help or whatever, they wanted to take pictures as well. And that’s when I started crying, when I thought, 'You know what? You're a mom. Why are you asking to take my picture right now? And you see that I'm crying. Are you that ignorant?' So that's why I cried," she said.
Little Boy
Sean Preston Federline is a little boy, who gowns day by day, and who changed Britney's life. Sean is simply a first name - friends and family call him Preston. This name Britney had planned to give to her son since she was a girl.
Every time when Britney goes out with Sean, paparazzi observe the little baby. After looking through some photos of Kevin Federline's other son, Kaleb (from his former girlfriend), they found out that the only difference two boys have - their skin. Kaleb is black and Sean is white. But if you look at Britney Spears when she was a little girl, you can see that baby Sean resembles his mother.
Sean likes to listen to his mother, when she sings him "Mary Had a Little Lamb." He wakes up with a smile and lights up the room. He also likes to watch his mother's dancing and likes to listen to music a lot! His favorite Britney's song is "My Prerogative."
Sean is very close to his mother and they are attached. She even has written a lullaby for her son that she sings every night to him. Britney is so pleased with the composition that she was planning to put the song on her new album. She wanted to write Sean a song to show how much he means to her.
In May 2006, 8-month-old baby-boy had his first tooth cutting. His first word Sean said in 9 months. And the word was not "mama"; Sean said "dada." He also said "nana," "baba." He made his first step at 10 months, when Britney and Kevin were in Las Vegas to promote Federline's album. Sean's favorite food is ice cream - it makes him sleep better.
A typical day for Sean and Britney involves getting up around 7-8a.m. He plays in his room and then goes for a walk. Sean Preston loves books. He likes choo-choo trains, and anything with wheels. He loves "Baby Einstein" and the "Wiggles". At bedtime Britney sometimes sings to him and makes up stories.
In summer 2006, Britney Spears registered a clothing trademark for her son for use in a children's clothing line of the same name. She's had a lot of time on her hands where it's just her and Sean and she would doodle designs. She's designed a little punk rock outfit, a hip hop outfit and a sharp suit.
Sean's First Birthday Celebration
Sean Preston Federline's first birthday, which took place in his mother's hospital recovery room following the birth of his baby brother, was pre-planned. They had brought toys and video games to keep him occupied throughout the entire stay. On September 14, for the actual party, they brought in a Disney-themed Cars cake. Everybody sang "Happy Birthday" while he jumped around on the couch, with his grandma Lynne holding on for dear life.
Kevin's family was allegedly not allowed to visit or attend the party. But that didn't prevent them from planning their own celebration with Sean. The Federlines have all purchased gifts for a little boy, and they were anxious to see the new baby. They planned a party for a few weeks out from his birthday that also included Kevin's two kids with Shar Jackson.
The Brother
Britney pretty much spent the first week at home in bed, recovering from the caesarian section birth of her second son. The baby was spending some of his day in his nursery and some of it with mother. They had a bassinet on wheels to take him back and forth between the two rooms. Along with not being able to be too much of a hands-on mom, Britney has also chosen not to breastfeed her second son, which enabled Kevin to take on all parental responsibility, including feeding.
Jayden's personality has made it much easier for the family's adjustment. He's been a fantastic little guy. He was not fussy. And he's just like his mom in that he likes to sleep a lot. Sean Preston started to take on the big brother role, and he's getting very protective. He wanted to be around the baby all the time.
Big brother Sean Preston hasn't taken well to his parents having to share their attention with his new sibling or his mothers' inactivity while she is healing. He is very much a mama's boy. He constantly wanted to be fed by Britney, carried around by Britney, entertained by Britney. But she couldn't do that right after caesarian section.
Sean Preston's nickname is Wiggle worm because he's constantly moving, that's why he fell when his former nanny was trying to get him out of his high chair, and Britney wasn't comfortable having him in her bed. She was still coping with the pain and couldn't deal with a toddler jumping around on her. Kevin and Lynne were doing their best to keep him occupied, but he became fussier than ever.
All four kids (step-siblings Kori and Kaleb and brother Sean) get along well. Sean Preston gets real excited when Kori and Kaleb come over, and Jayden picks up things a lot quicker than the others, because he has the benefit of learning from the older kids.
Sean Preston's Style (3-24 months)
"Little Showoffs" tees are made from 100% ring spun cotton which is noticeably softer and higher in quality than the carded cotton used by others. "Little Showoffs" takes baby bragging to a new level with adorable tees, onsies, and caps. Britney Spears and her baby has been gifted with "Hottie Mommy", "Brand New" and "Eat Poop Sleep Cry" tees.
"IsaBooties" are extremely practical. The elastic ankle ensures they stay where they're supposed to. "IsaBooties" were designed by moms who know just how difficult it is to keep kids (and their clothes) looking clean as a whistle. That's why "IsaBooties" are made out of ultrasuede rather than leather. Not only is ultrasuede scuff-proof and stain resistant, it is machine-washable and machine-dryable. Sean Preston has got a pair of these.
Plush toys from "Moncalin" are refreshingly different and endearing. Each product is baby-safe as they don't use any plastic parts in their toys. You can choice a pig or a cat, in various shades and bright, fun colors. Britney Spears owns "Moncalin" blankets and toys for her son.
Featured on "Access Hollywood" and in the pages of "People" magazine and "In Touch" magazine, "Serena & Lily" baby linens are quickly becoming a favorite of A-list moms. In fact, Britney Spears is tremendous fan of product line. She has thoughtfully chosen the company's sophisticated, style-driven collections for her nursery drawn by a look that is beautiful but not babyish.
Britney Spears was spotted out with son, Sean Preston, in West Hollywood. A bodyguard carried Sean, who was wearing one "Vans Kids Classic Checkboard" slip-ons in black/white ($25), while Britney totes a "Soothie" bottle ($9 for pack of 3).
Back to the recording, Britney Spears was concerned that her son would be bored while mommy worked, so she bought the little man a toy "Cadillac Escalade". The ride has spinning rims, a simulated CD playing hip-hop songs and a chrome grill. Britney planed on returning to the studio and asked that the vehicle was left behind.
