Britney Spears went from "Curious" to "Fantasy", and then she became "In Control". More than 10 million bottles of the three scents have been sold since the launch of "Curious Britney Spears" in September 2004.
"This perfume is for empowered girls who want to take over the world - forget about the men!" Britney said just ahead of a press appearance to celebrate her two-year collaboration with the beauty company. "In Control" is Britney's favorite, and not just because it's the newest one. "It's more demanding, it's more sensual, it's black, it's about being in control. That's cool and inspirational. Girls need that," she said.
"In Control Curious Britney Spears" is a fresh, citrus fruity, soft oriental. Exclusive and out of grasp, the Loquat Fruit is unattainable yet unmistakably desirable. Midnight Orchid, creme brulee, black vanilla bean and tonka crystals, a drydown of sugared sandalwood and musk put an exotic edge on the game.
Created by the perfumer Claude Dir, In Control Curious takes the vanilla and sugar paved gourmand road in arriving at a gingerbread house composition. Dir's sweetening of the white floral accord with candied fruit and vanilla recalls the manner of rendering floral notes found in "Botrytis", a fragrance inspired by the honeyed richness of late harvest wines. Continuing along the same candied vein, it can be compared to "Escada" Collection.
It is packaged in "Curious'" signature bottle with an attached atomizer. Rather than the original's pale blue bottle, "In Control's" version is a deep onyx shade with a pink atomizer and silver accents. The carton is of pink leopard with a zipper motif revealing a black background.
The company spent for about $2 million on advertising and promotion during that time. A national print advertising campaign, shot by Ellen von Unwerth, features a seductive shot of Britney Spears. It appeared in fashion, beauty and lifestyle magazines.
Britney said on her official web-site, "I'm very excited about my new, sexy limited edition scent, "In Control". It's a new twist on my best-selling fragrance, "Curious", but with added touches of creme brulee and midnight orchid that make it so sensual and exotic. It’s completely addictive!"
